A Frankel filly foal, a full sister to Chaldean who gained the Dewhurst Stakes and the 2000 Guineas, has bought for two.5m guineas (£2.625m) on the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, equalling the European document within the course of.
The filly, who’s out of Suelita, was launched into the gross sales ring as “the queen of the present” by Tattersalls auctioneer Alastair Pim, and the opening bid was 1m guineas. It was Amo Racing’s Kia Joorabchian who made the ultimate bid after a short cellphone name. It’s the highest ever value achieved by a filly foal in Europe – the earlier document holder was when My Storm went down for 1.8m guineas at this sale in 2002.
“What’s there to say? We now have spent 2.5m on an own-sister to a Basic winner; I believe we’ve made transfer, and it’s a courageous assertion of intent by Kia,” stated bloodstock agent Alex Elliott. “I used to be prepared Kia to make that final bid, he needed to make a cellphone name – he stated that he needed to cellphone a good friend; I stated don’t ask the viewers! I’m over the moon – such horses are so very exhausting to purchase. The mare is unbelievable, the farm is unbelievable, the sire is unbelievable and she or he is a beautiful filly.”
The filly was bred and consigned by Whitsbury Manor Stud; Chris Harper, who took over the operating of the stud within the Nineteen Seventies and whose son Ed Harper now runs it, stated: “I’m very emotional. Suelita was the final mare I purchased, she was simply my type – very fairly, not very massive, a pleasant massive physique with quick legs. Did I believe she might develop into what she has? By no means! What a fortunate chap I’m? It’s fairly extraordinary, I by no means thought this might occur to somebody like me!”
Ed Harper added: “It’s wonderful! It’s humorous, when we’ve a very good one like this I’ve little or no to do along with her actually – the group [at home] simply go into overdrive. She didn’t want any promoting, the mating deliberate itself. It has all been all the way down to the group.”
